2. From Inspiration to Impact: The Path from Innovation to Standard of Care and Continuous Improvement in Lung Cancer Surgery
[Department Lungsurgery]
E. von Meyenfeldt, G. Marres, P. Mens
In this workshop, we follow the journey of transforming Enhanced Recovery After Thoracic Surgery (ERATS) from an innovative concept into a sustainable standard of care. the ERATS guideline was designed as a multidisciplinary approach to standardise and optimise perioperative care, ensuring better outcomes for lung resection patients. Lung surgery involves so much more than just the operation—it is a journey that starts at diagnosis and continues through recovery. It takes a dedicated team of specialists to guide each patient every step of the way, ensuring the best possible outcomes. However, just having the ERATS guideline is not enough! To ensure consistent implementation and ongoing improvement, we will introduce the audit and feedback dashboard—a real-time tool to monitor adherence and drive better results. Increased insight into the patient journey, emphasised the importance of preparing patients both physically and mentally before surgery to enhance recovery and reduce complications. This insight has lead to the addition of a formal prehabilitation program to ERATS. Ultimately, this workshop highlights the entire patient journey, showcasing how teamwork and innovation come together to transform care. Join us as we explore how this combination of innovation and implementation is reshaping care and delivering better results for patients.
